Design Clocks
A design clock is more than a functional object: it is a statement in your interior. Our design clocks are created to stand out and fit perfectly into modern, minimalist or creative interiors.
Dutch Design clocks with character
IKONIC stands for Dutch Design: distinctive, experimental and thoughtfully designed. Whether you are looking for a sculptural wall clock, a striking object for a shelf, or a design clock that combines art and function, IKONIC offers clocks that enhance your interior rather than simply fill a space.

Bubble Clock by Teun Zwets
A striking example from our collection of design clocks is the Bubble Clock by Teun Zwets. This unique design clock emerged from experimental material research and an intuitive approach to design that is characteristic of Zwets' work.
For the first version of the Bubble Clock, Teun Zwets developed a distinctive handmade production process. He used a two-component polyurethane that expands as it cures. The resin was poured into an inflated balloon, which was then placed inside a wooden mould.

The mould was then rotated by hand. As it turned, the liquid resin gradually spread across the inside of the balloon, taking on its irregular shape. Once the material had cured, the balloon was removed, leaving behind the characteristic shape of the clock.
Technically, the process was a simple form of rotational moulding. But it was precisely the handmade nature of the process that gave the design its character. No two balloons behaved exactly the same way, resulting in a slightly different shape for each clock. The result: clocks that are all recognisable as Bubble Clocks, yet no two are exactly alike.

Teun Zwets produced and sold these clocks in a small series to design enthusiasts. Although each clock was individually unique, the production process proved highly labour-intensive and the objects were relatively fragile.

The Bubble Clocks now available from IKONIC are therefore produced using a traditional rotational moulding process. They are cast in a precisely CNC-machined aluminium mould and manufactured on a professional rotational moulding machine. This production method results in a stronger and more durable clock, while preserving the essence of the original design.
The clocks are produced in Tilburg, the Netherlands. To develop the mould for series production, one of Teun Zwets' original handmade clocks was 3D-scanned, ensuring that the characteristic shape and appearance of the original design were retained.

The Bubble Clock balances between a functional clock and a sculptural object. It is a design clock that not only tells the time, but also makes the production process and element of chance visible. In this way, it is a distinctive example of contemporary Dutch Design.
